WOODRUFF, S.C. – Just one day after returning to the classroom, students of Spartanburg School District four are back at home.

Classes resumed after a two-hour delay Tuesday morning but as faculty and staff made their way into Woodruff High School, a substance thought to be mold was found in several areas within the building. Out of an abundance of caution, the district decided to keep students home until air quality tests could be conducted.

Following Hurricane Helene, a number of buildings in the district, including Woodrfuff High, were left without power for more than a week. The district did have a third-party come in to conduct the air quality test on Wednesday in addition to contacting a specialized cleaning crew to clean every building in the district. Late Wednesday afternoon, the district shared this update on their Facebook page.

“Because we have not completed the cleaning process and do not have the air quality test results, District 4 Schools will remain CLOSED for THURSDAY, OCT 10, and there will be no eLearning expectations. We will continue to update you. Thank you again for your understanding as we continue to work together for the safety of our students and staff.”
