SPARTANBURG COUNTY, S.C. (FOX Carolina) – Spartanburg County School District Four announced Sunday all schools will be on a regular schedule Monday, Oct. 14.

This comes after schools remained closed for several days after the discovery of possible mold.

On Sunday, Oct. 13, school officials said they were working with specialized partners to remediate and test air quality over the weekend. They said they are awaiting for one final air quality test from a space used as an office at Woodruff Middle School.

Officials released the following statement on Facebook:

This space will remain closed until we receive a satisfactory air quality result. Because of our remediation and extensive testing, the environmental consulting partner has confirmed that the rest of Woodruff Middle School is safe for students and staff regarding air quality. Additionally, air quality tests from the District Four Learning Center have returned satisfactory. ALL of District Four will be on a REGULAR SCHEDULE tomorrow, MONDAY, OCTOBER 14, 2024.

The statement goes on to say the district will continue to monitor air quality with prescribed third-party testing.

On Tuesday, Oct. 8, school officials said personnel discovered a substance possibly mildew or mold on several desks in a room at Woodruff High School. Students had just returned to school and officials said the district was without power for eight days due to Helene.

After the discovery, the room immediately closed to students and faculty. They later found the substance in additional areas in the school.

At that time, evidence of the substance was only found at Woodruff High School, according to school officials.

On Wednesday, a third-party agent collected samples to test the air quality at each school and throughout the district.

0n Thursday, a specialized cleaning company began the process of cleaning using antimicrobial agents at all schools.

School officials said last Friday, as they wait for the results from the air quality test, schools would remain closed on Friday, Oct. 11 and there would be no eLearning expectations.

FOX Carolina will continue providing updates as they become available.
